The Gleinalmtunnel toll in Austria
Exciting information about the Gleinalm Tunnel
In addition to the Bosruck Tunnel, the Gleinalm Tunnel on the A9 Pyhrn Autobahn is also an essential part of the route. The Bosruck Tunnel is located in central Austria, near Liezen, Selzthal, and Rottenmann, while the Gleinalm Tunnel runs about 100 kilometers further between St. Michael in Upper Styria and Kleintal (about 50 kilometers from Graz).
Similar to the Bosruck Tunnel, the Gleinalm Tunnel is subject to a special toll system. This means that a standard digital toll sticker is not required to drive through the Gleinalm Tunnel. Instead of the digital toll sticker, a distance-based toll must be paid, which can be conveniently purchased digitally in our online shop.
The Gleinalm Tunnel also has its own toll lane, allowing the digital toll to be automatically collected by installed cameras at a slightly reduced speed. Eliminating the barrier makes the tunnel more efficient, significantly reducing waiting times and heavy traffic.
The Gleinalm Tunnel has an impressive length of 8,320 meters (8.3 km). In comparison, the Bosruck Tunnel is significantly shorter at 5,425 meters (5.4 km). Like many other tunnels in Austria, the Gleinalm Tunnel also has two separate tunnel tubes, with few exceptions. Between 22,000 and 40,000 cars and trucks use the Gleinalm Tunnel every day.

Renovation and opening of the Gleinalm Tunnel
The Gleinalm Tunnel opened in 1978. A second tube was put into operation in July 2017 after tragic accidents at a maximum speed of 80 km/h highlighted the need for an additional tube.
This second tunnel reopened to traffic in December 2019 after extensive renovation work. Since both tunnels are located on the A9 Pyhrn Autobahn, it's important to note that it's not necessary to drive through both tunnels on the long route. In our online shop, you can purchase the Gleinalm Tunnel toll for each section individually or together.
Road safety and optimization
